CH / STUDIOReading Journal: TabMap field guide

A paper-first reading field guide

Follow What a Story Deliberately Withholds

Use three linked fields: what is missing, who lacks it, and gap changes. Keep each field brief and attach the page or chapter landmark that supports it.

Track missing information without filling the gap with hindsight. A compact three-anchor trail keeps the note useful when you return later or discuss it with someone using another edition.

Step 1

Anchor the location

Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.

Step 2

What is missing

Name the missing fact without guessing it.

Step 3

Who lacks it

Record which character or reader lacks it.

Step 4

Gap changes

Update at the first page where the gap narrows or closes.
