A paper-first reading field guide

Mark Where a Book's Genre Expectation Shifts

Use three linked fields: expectation before, shift page, and expectation after. Keep each field brief and attach the page or chapter landmark that supports it.

Record the page where a book changes the kind of reading promise it appears to make. A compact three-anchor trail keeps the note useful when you return later or discuss it with someone using another edition.

Step 1

Anchor the location

Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.

Step 2

Expectation before

Describe the reading expectation created so far.

Step 3

Shift page

Anchor the scene or claim that unsettles it.

Step 4

Expectation after

State the new expectation without assuming the ending.
