Recheck a Percentage in a Revised Edition

When this method helps

Use this when a newer edition changes a statistic but leaves surrounding prose similar.

A changed number may use a new population or method. The apparent update can otherwise conceal a different question.

Method

Build the note

1. Record both edition pages, percentages, denominators, and cited source dates.

2. Compare the sentence before and after each number for changes in scope or certainty.

3. Label the result updated, not comparable, or editorial change and state why.

An increase from 22% to 31% reflects a broader age range, so the figures are labeled not directly comparable.
