Resume a Dense Nonfiction Chapter After a Break
Record the claim you had reached, the evidence type currently in use, and one term that still needs clarification. On return, reread only the last marked paragraph and test whether those three lines still fit.
Dense nonfiction is hard to restart because the location alone does not restore the argument. A small state record can recover the thread without creating a parallel set of notes.
Step 1
Name the live claim
Write one sentence beginning ‘The author is arguing that…’ and stop before adding your opinion.

Step 2
Name the evidence
Mark the evidence form, since a statistic, example, analogy, and historical sequence ask for different kinds of checking.

Step 3
Leave one uncertainty
Write the term, link, or assumption that has not yet become clear. One uncertainty is easier to resume than a full chapter summary.

Restart with a fit check
