A paper-first reading field guide
Track an Unanswered Promise From the Introduction
Paraphrase the introductory promise, mark the pages that advance it, and record the point where it is fulfilled, narrowed, or left open.
An introduction creates expectations that can disappear across long chapters. A promise trail makes delivery visible.
Step 1
Anchor the location
Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.
Step 2
Opening promise
Write the promise at the scope actually stated.
Step 3
Progress pages
Add only pages that materially advance it.
Step 4
Final status
Classify the ending fulfilled, narrowed, or unresolved.
