A paper-first reading field guide
Create a Character Entrance Index
Use three linked fields: first entrance, known relation, and open question. Keep each field brief and attach the page or chapter landmark that supports it.
Remember a large cast through first entrance, immediate relation, and one unresolved question. A compact three-anchor trail keeps the note useful when you return later or discuss it with someone using another edition.
Step 1
Anchor the location
Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.
Step 2
First entrance
Record the first page where the character acts or speaks.
Step 3
Known relation
Name only the relationship visible there.
Step 4
Open question
Add one question the introduction leaves open.
