A paper-first reading field guide
Mark Where Passive Voice Hides Responsibility
Use three linked fields: action stated, actor named, and missing check. Keep each field brief and attach the page or chapter landmark that supports it.
Notice when a sentence names an action or outcome while leaving the responsible actor unclear. A compact three-anchor trail keeps the note useful when you return later or discuss it with someone using another edition.
Step 1
Anchor the location
Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.
Step 2
Action stated
Anchor the sentence and paraphrase the action it describes.
Step 3
Actor named
Record whether the responsible person or group is named nearby.
Step 4
Missing check
Add the source or page needed before assigning responsibility.
