Save a Book Page When No Quote Is Needed
Record the page, choose one purpose, and write a cue in your own words. Copy exact wording only when the wording itself is the object you plan to discuss or verify.
Many useful reading moments are structural or emotional. Copying a sentence can create work without preserving the reason you stopped.
Step 1
Choose the purpose
Select the single reason the page deserves a return.

- reaction to revisit
- clue to test
- question to discuss
Step 2
Write a non-quote cue
Describe what your attention did: ‘tone turns defensive’ or ‘earlier promise returns.’ Keep it short enough to scan.

Step 3
Use a quotation threshold
Copy exact words only if changing the wording would change the analysis. Otherwise let the book remain the source.
Step 4
Test retrieval
A week later, read only the cue. If it points you to the right moment, it is enough.
