Separate an Author Claim From a Cited Scholar
Use three linked fields: source position, author response, and difference. Keep each field brief and attach the page or chapter landmark that supports it.
Keep a nonfiction author's position distinct from the source they quote, summarize, or challenge. A compact three-anchor trail keeps the note useful when you return later or discuss it with someone using another edition.
Step 1
Anchor the location
Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.
Step 2
Source position
Anchor the cited scholar's claim as represented in the book.
Step 3
Author response
Record the author's agreement, qualification, or objection.
Step 4
Difference
State the remaining difference without merging the two voices.
