Recover Your Place After Losing a Bookmark

Write the last event you clearly remember, scan chapter openings and endings only, and stop at the first unfamiliar event. Move backward one section before resuming to avoid skipping context.

Searching line by line risks spoilers and wastes time. A bounded event scan can recover position with less exposure.

Step 1

Anchor the location

Record the page or chapter before interpreting the moment. Add the current reading boundary when later knowledge could change the note.

Step 2

Last remembered event

State the event without guessing a page.

Step 3

Safe scan

Scan headings plus the first and last lines of nearby sections, staying within a declared range.

Step 4

First unfamiliar event

At the first unfamiliar event, step back one section and resume normally.
